“The art of hybridizing”

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” - Luther Burbank

Hopeful Seedlings

As a hybridizer one of the most exciting things to do during the season is wake up early and run to the seedlings beds to see what’s blooming for the first time.

It’s hard to explain the excitement one gets from it, years of hard work, planning and anticipation all coming together at once.

In this section you will find a collection of seedlings that bloomed for the first time in 2022. Hopefuls that I have selected amongst hundreds to be monitored, recorded and analyzed with the hopes of one day introducing them at the first Emerald-View Cultivars.

One thing I’ve learned over the last 4 years is to focus. With over 90,000 named varieties of daylilies, and endless amounts of seedlings, the genetic potential is endless. With that, you can easily get carried away with your breeding program.

These seedlings, along with 27 others will be watched closely over the next 2-4 years. We will see who makes the cut!
